Don’t miss out on the next Hague Talks in The Hague on 21 September

The Hague Talksinitiated at the beginning of 2015, is a series of events organised throughout the world engaging a very creative and fruitful debate on “Setting peace and justice in motion”.

One of the next events is a discussion entitled YOUR PEACE, MY PEACE: LET’S KICKSTART PEACE NOW!, inviting creators form all over the world to share their experience on what peace means to them with the audience. It will take place on Monday 21 September 2015 at the Peace Palace in The Hague, The Netherlands, from 2 to 5.15 pm.

The following questions will be at the center of the debate: How can we kickstart peace? How creativity and innovative ideas can contribute to a peaceful world?

Listen to Amer Shanati, a boat refugee, who inspires hundreds of students in Syria by teaching music. Or Massoud Hassani, designer of the Mine Kafon that detonates landmines as it rolls across the ground. Experience how peace can be kick started through music, media, cartoons, robots, solar powered mobile cinemas, CSI-Rhino, the validation of memories, dance, recycled clothes, and ethical smart phones. What is your idea?

For details regarding program and schedule, see the Hague Talks page of the event here.

Some news about Creating Rights

Dear readers

thank you again for following the development of Creating Rights! We want to share two news with you.

First, we are proud to announce that as of January 2015, Creating Rights is a non-profit organization, with its main seat in The Hague, The Netherlands. Creating Rights seeks to engage in projects promoting human rights through art. Its aim is to connect artists, human rights activists, academics and practitioners of international law and human rights across national and thematic borders. Areas of interest include the protection of internationally recognized human rights, international humanitarian law, and transitional justice. Creating Rights seeks to deepen actions in these domains through their interaction with artistic and cultural productions.

Second, we are glad to introduce you to our first posts by contributors to the blog. Marie-Pierre Poulain, an international criminal lawyer, will reflect, in French, on how Ai Weiwei freed Alcatraz by setting an exhibition on freedom of expression behind the walls of the most infamous prison. Andrea Breslin and Orla Lehane will explore how theater can set the stage for a critical reflection on human rights violations in armed conflict.

Stay tuned!
